Colonial Park Cemetery

~It is the oldest cemetery in Savannah.
~Was opened in 1750.
~Was used as Primary Burial Grounds for Savannah for 103 years.
~Has many noteworthy burials, some being Button Gwinnett, a singer of the Declaration of Independence; Archibald Bulloch 1st President of GA.
~About 600 Burial markers, but over 11,000 bodies.
~William Bower Williamson's Burial marker is the oldest one standing, he died in 1762.
~There are many brick vaults, they appear to be above ground burials, but aren't. They are family vaults that have been filled in. They used to be an entrance with steps that led down into the vaults.
~1820 nearly 700 people died from Yellow Fever.
