Bonadventure is another old and historical cemetery in Savannah. I don't know
alot of the history on it. But I do have the history on some of the people that ly in it.
I will put that information with the pictures. Enjoy.
Conrad Aiken was a decorated 20th century poet and author. Before he pasted he specified that he wanted his gravestone to a bench (it has a beautiful overlook of the river. It is a Savannah tradition to sit on Aiken's grave and toast his with either a martini or a mint julep.
For the next 8 pictures below.
Jonny Mercer was a famous song writer in the 1930's 40's and 50's. He wrote many famous songs... (some are listed on his bench in pictures below). If your not familiar he wrote the original song "Jeepers Creepers". He had many Oscar-winning hits in that time period. In the next 8 pictures below are his and his families gravestones. In the photo of his bench that is his actual Signature engraved into the stone, thought that was cool. Chris and I actually got to meet (one of) his Great Great......Nieces. She was there rinsing off the sand off family stones form the previous days of rain. She was a very nice lady.
The picture below reads:
Little Gracie Watson was born in 1883, The
The only child of her parents, her father was manager
of the Pulaski house, one of savannah's leading hotels,
where the beautiful and charming little girl was a
favorite with the guests. Two days before Easter, in
April 1889 Gracie died of Pneumonia at the age of six.
In 1890, when the rising sculptor, John Wale, moved to
Savannah, he carved from a photograph this life-sized,
delicately detailed marble statue, which for almost a
centurey has captured the interest of all passersby .
Little Gracie
The sculptor even carved her pupils on her eyes, lol it's creepy.
